“It is a right to change ourselves by changing the city more after our heart’s desire.” (From the book Rebel Cities by David Harvey)

On Tuesday February 20 Paradiso (Amsterdam) will host the Rebel Cities conference, with as its main guest Lorenzo Marsili of DiEM25 and European Alternatives.

Predatory capitalism is wrecking our cities. Money rules while politicians sit and watch. All around the world people are standing up to reclaim the city and create a genuine collective space. What will the city look like if we leave old-school politics and blind market forces behind us?

At the Rebel Cities-event we get together around the rebellious scale model of the western harbour area of Amsterdam. This scale model showcases the design principles that will guide our urban imagination. The big hall of Paradiso will be turned into a public workshop where everybody can contribute to the city as a Gesamtkunstwerk, a collective art work.

We find our inspiration in rebellious sister cities like Barcelona, Napoli and Beograd. During the event we will formulate the Statute of the Republic of Amsterdam: a city that is fair, open, generous and uplifting for all.

What will the city look like if we let our hearts speak up?

Doors open at 7.30 p.m., program starts at 8 p.m.
Entry €7,50
